King of the Jungle

The award-winning theatrical tour of The Lion King launched in Denver oh-so-many years ago -- and theater-lovers will be thrilled to hear that it's back for another run.

"In big, commercial musical theater, there are still a handful of shows that seem to be magical. Phantom is still Phantom. Les Mis is still Les Mis -- and The Lion King is still The Lion King. People just love it," says Randy Weeks of Denver Center Attractions. "It's a great story, and there's the whole Julie Taymor twist of how brilliant she was in figuring out the puppetry and making it all work." (Too bad the same magic didn't infuse Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, but you can't win 'em all.)

"We're excited that a whole generation of kids will be enjoying the experience of live musical theater," concludes Weeks.

See the sensation that took home six Tony awards in 1998 (including one for Best Musical) beginning tonight; The Lion King runs through December 4 in the Buell Theatre at the Denver Performing Arts Center -- and it's selling out fast, so get your tickets (starting at $25) soon.
