Boys On Parade

Leave it to burlesque madame extraordinaire and bad-ass emcee Cora Vette (aka Reyna Von Vett) to step outside her sparkle-vinyl box for a new show. "I felt like there's so much burlesque happening in Denver, and so many different groups, that it was time to do something different," she says. And after traveling the country this past year to appear at various and sundry events, she realized something: Boylesque is becoming increasingly popular, and Denver has a chance to be on the cutting edge of a new trend.

Hence Cora Vette's Hot Rods! The Show, an extravaganza of boylesque talent that will take burlesque fans to the next level.

"I put it out there that I might be interested in putting a show like this together, and the venues and the boys came to me," she says. "I started getting Facebook messages from all these hot, shirtless men." Poor thing.

"There are so many different ways boylesque can go," Vette adds. "It was born out of men thinking that this classic burlesque is so glam and awesome and saying, 'I could do that.'"

The first show in what will possibly become a long-running weekly series launches tonight at the Compound Basix, 145 Broadway; it'll start off classic and glamorous, Vette says, but knowing her, there will be plenty of opportunity to veer into the twisted.
