Now We're Cooking

Max Mackissock has emerged as one of the Mile High City's most formidable culinary wizards, but when the Squeaky Bean, the irreverent Highland restaurant whose diminutive kitchen he trailblazed, closed several months ago, the chef left the line--which isn't to say he's been twiddling his toes. Not only has he since tied the knot with Rioja owner/exec chef Jennifer Jasinski, but he and Squeaky Bean owner Johnny Ballen are close to inking a deal on a new space. And tonight and tomorrow night, Mackissock will cook a five-course dinner to benefit Work Options for Women, a local nonprofit that equips women with the know-how to enter the food industry.

More About

"More than any other charity in town, this is the one that means the most to me," says Mackissock. "I know exactly where the money goes, and I know that the women going through the program leave with tangible skills that will help them get jobs."

The reservation-only feast, which includes wine, takes place at Cafe Options--a project of WOW--and costs $100 per person, including gratuity. "There will also be a lot of other fun sips and bites to open and close the meal, and we're offering a separate multi-course vegetarian menu, too," adds Mackissock. Cafe Options is at 1650 Curtis Street; reservations can be made between 6 and 9 p.m. at 720-944-1166.
