Papa Juke

Out of the Blues
Self-released

Out of the Blues, Papa Juke's followup to 2009's Jukin' at Jack's, draws from the blues in many forms. Early on, the four-piece displays a knack for writing tunes all across the blues spectrum, from blues-tinged funk numbers like "Never Lost Love" to jazzy blues cuts like "Sizzle" and jump blues tracks like "Well Babe." From there, Papa Juke tosses a few more things in the mix, like a touch of country on "Grocery Store," with harmonica player Mad Dog Friedman and bassist Christine Webb trading off lead vocal duties, as they do throughout the album. Whatever kind of groove Papa Juke is laying into, most of the cuts on Out of the Blues will light up the dance floor.
