Out of Africa

Connecting the dots for why you should celebrate Kwanzaa at the Denver Zoo is as easy as an urban African safari -- which is exactly what event organizers have in mind for the celebration that starts tonight. "Making cultural connections," explains event coordinator Megan Woodcock. "We have so many African animals here, so what better way to help people make the connection than by celebrating Kwanzaa here?" As in years past, she says, activities will include storytelling and an African dance and drum-ensemble performance at Norgren Hall. And, of course, all evening the entire zoo will be lit up holiday-style, with many concession stands serving up warm snacks and drinks to kill the chill.
