One half theater and one half academic lecture: If that formula sounds simple, it's not. TEDx Mile High Salon celebrates Colorado's artists and innovators by placing them in front of live audiences to share their stories. The goal of the conference series is to inspire action through what its non-profit parent refers to as "Ideas Worth Spreading."

"We look for presenters who have transformative ideas that have the potential to shape the future," says curator Jeremy Duhon. "These are people we believe can inspire, educate and stimulate change."

Although the Mile High branch of the national series started only last year, it has already added a new tradition: a shorter, more interactive version of its annual keynote addresses that is aesthetically akin to an eighteenth-century salon. This year's names include slam poet Theo Wilson and SAME Cafe founder Libby Birky. "At the salon, in addition to mingling over food, drinks and live music, attendees will be active participants in the program," Duhon says. "We hope that people walk away from the event and take at least one thing they experienced back into their lives."
