Automatic Shifting

You don't need a Ouija board or a psychic to connect with the spirit world; sometimes all it takes is a piece of paper and a writing instrument. "Automatic writing is a psychic activity," explains professional psychic and spirit guide Sean Michael Morris. "You allow another spirit to sort of write through you, to communicate by moving your hand across the page."

Morris believes this technique is accessible to everyone, and you can test your hand at it today at Isis Books & Gifts, 2775 South Broadway in Englewood, when Morris leads the Automatic Writing Play Date. "The class is very practical," he promises. "You spend two hours doing different writing exercises."

Morris himself has been automatic writing for three years, and says the process is not the same as what happens when writers create fiction. "There's a certain amount of automatic writing that happens when you write creatively," he says. "But in creative writing, the closest you're coming to any sort of automatic writing is that you're channeling your own self, or your muse. Automatic writing involves a consciousness that is not you."

Get in touch with that consciousness from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Isis. Admission is $20; call 303-761-8627 to sign up.
Sun., Jan. 29, 3-5 p.m., 2012
