Milking the Cow

Despite boasting a higher-than-average number of museums, parks, bands, venues, theater companies and designers, as well as the nation's fifth-highest concentration of artists, Denver is still depicted by the mainstream media as a flyover city filled with rednecks and burnouts, equally ready to take a knee or a toke. Blame John Denver, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, or the orangutan from Every Which Way But Loose: The ghosts of Cowtown are hard to shake.

"Killing the cow is necessary if we ever hope to gain new ground in film, literature and music,” says Ron S. Doyle, co-host and producer of the live podcast series Denver Diatribe. “It's just not who we are anymore."
