"Each year we bring the best of the best from the Banff festival to Boulder and Denver, selecting films that tell great stories, feature beautiful cinematography, and challenge us to look at our world in new ways," Leone continues. REI has been a local sponsor of the world tour for the past fifteen years.
The best of this year's fest includes several films with Colorado roots: Carbondale-based filmmaker Anson Fogel won Best Film -- Climbing and the festival's overall grand prize, among other awards, in November for his film Cold; Basalt-based photographer/filmmaker Peter McBride won Best Short -- Mountain Film for Chasing Water, a portrait of the Colorado River; and Greeley based kayaker/filmmaker Ben Stokesbury won Best Film-Mountain and Adventure for Kadoma, a harrowing tale of adventure gone wrong in Congo and the untimely death of kayaking legend Hendri Coetzee.
The world tour stops in Boulder tonight and tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Boulder Theater, 2032 14th Street, and in Denver on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre, 1621 Glenarm Place. Tickets, available at REI stores, are $19.50 and typically sell out in advance. For more info, go to www.banffcentre.ca/mountainfestival/worldtour.
