Harry Tuft & Friends

Treasures Untold
Manasses Records

Harry Tuft, who was just inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame, may be best known for having run the Denver Folklore Center for the better part of its fifty-year existence, but he's also a fine musician and singer in his own right. Joined by a number of local musicians — among them Rich Moore, Mollie O'Brien and Eric Thorin — Tuft delivers some first-rate renditions of songs by Bob Dylan, Linda Thompson and Jimmy Rodgers, as well as a nice take on Leonard Cohen's "Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye," which features lovely harmonies by Judy Collins, whom Tuft has known since the '60s. While most of the songs on Treasures Untold are folk-centric, Tuft stretches out a bit on a slow, bluesy take on "One Mint Julep" with some help from local bluesman Otis Taylor, as well as a lilting, jazzy version of the Ink Spots' "If I Didn't Care."
