Finders Keepers

The first Spanish-language production mounted by Opera Colorado, Florencia en el Amazonas, follows a character's epic hunt for her lover, who has disappeared into the jungle. Tonight, Opera Colorado celebrates Florencia's themes of intrigue and determination with The Scavenger Hunt, which frames First Friday in a new, interactive way.

Teams will follow a trail of QR codes and smartphone clues through more than ten gallery spaces in the Santa Fe Arts District, each strewn with tidbits about the history of the neighborhood. From the graffiti on the sidewalk to the artwork on the walls, anything can contain a clue. Teams compete for points and a $1,000 cash prize.

"Instead of being strangers as they walk down the street, this is a chance for people to participate in this fun experience," says Opera Colorado's Susan Hennessy. "It's like taking an active conversation and mobilizing it. It's also a chance for people to see how much there is to learn about Denver by visiting the Santa Fe district."

Beginning at 6 p.m., the Scavenger Hunt culminates with a reception at 8 p.m. at the Museo de las Americas, 861 Santa Fe Drive. Team registration is $40; visit www.operacolorado.org to register, or call 303-778-7086 for more information.
Fri., March 2, 6-9 p.m., 2012
