Main Street Blues

Colfax & 15th, an independent film set and produced in Denver, provides a glimpse into a world that many of us simply drive by on our way in and out of downtown: the concentration of businesses that provide high-interest, high-stakes loans to bounce people out of jail.

More About

In their fictional full-length feature, director Stephen Santa Cruz and cinematographer Joel Stangle focus their lens on street-smart Isaac, who takes uneasy work as a bounty hunter in order to provide for his soon-to-be-born child. Isaac struggles to survive and maintain self as he confronts a dark, unpredictable side of his new line of work. Isaac is good at the job, but he knows it may not be good for his family, or his future.

"It's a really subtle story of self-discovery," says Santa Cruz. "Isaac has to find a certain balance. The only way he can fulfill his responsibilities is by digging into this lifestyle, which comes with any number of unknown dangers that can change the course of one's life."

Colfax & 15th premieres tonight at the Denver FilmCenter, 2510 East Colfax Avenue. Santa Cruz, Stangle and members of the Denver-based cast will be on hand for a Q&A following the 7 p.m. screening. Tickets are $10 to $12; call 303-595-3456 or visit www.denverfilm.org.
