Dan Jacobs, director of the Victoria H. Myhren Gallery at the University of Denver, has endeavored to present shows that document the efforts of local artists both historic and contemporary. Being on the DU campus in the School of Art and Art History, Jacobs has a built-in roster from which to choose, in the form of the practicing artists who make up the faculty. It is their efforts that he'll showcase tonight at the opening of the descriptively titled Faculty Triennial.

"I've been amazed by the ambition of some of the artists as reflected in production values, scale and the inclusion of some long-term projects," says Jacobs. One revelation was the way in which the show echoed DU's program. "Academic art programs emphasize re-search and long-term thinking," Jacobs notes. "So there's a lot of substantive work here that is executed really wonderfully."

Included artists, several of whom are well known in the community, are: Lawrence Argent, Kevin Curry, Susan Meyer, Jessie Paige, Deborah Howard, Catherine Chauvin, Mindy Bray, Roddy MacInnes, Lauren Mayer and Timothy Weaver. The show continues through March 11. For additional details, call 303-871-3716 or go to www.myhrengallery.com.
