In its four years of existence, Colorado Springs burlesque troupe Peaks and Pasties has established itself firmly in its southern niche, and now founder Lola Spitfire (aka Lindzey Martucci) wants to take things to the next level. "We're trying to incorporate more higher education for burlesque dancers," she explains, "so we've been inviting a lot of really awesome superstars of burlesque from around the country to come and perform with us, and they usually teach a class while they're here."
The aptly named Legs Malone -- who's been teaching a class on healing your relationship with your body for the past couple of years -- happened to be coming to the area, and today's Burlesque Master Class is the result. The workshop will cover right action, partner processes, dialoguing with the self, working with affirmations, movement and more.
"Each individual class is so different," says Spitfire. "You can take away so much about performance aspects and character development and getting in tune with your body."
The class starts at 2 p.m. at the Heart of Art Cafe, 2502 West Colorado Avenue, Suite 301, in Colorado Springs; admission is $20. For information on more burlesque master classes (upcoming professor/performers include the Shanghai Pearl, who'll be doing a work-shop on owning the stage as a drama queen), visit www.peaksandpasties.com.
