While the history of punk is still being written, there are plenty of gaps to be filled when it comes to sharing the impact of women's roles in the evolving musical movement. Tonight at Growler Records, a screening of From the Back of the Room aims to patch up more than three decades of the DIY style's legacy with the inclusion of women's voices.

"I wanted to raise awareness about the fact that punk is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a utopia," says film producer and director Amy Oden regarding the misconception that the outsider art form has always been about equality. Featuring interviews with seminal '90s punk pioneers Kathleen Hanna from Bikini Kill, Allison Wolfe of Bratmobile and others, the film delves into the sexism and segregation of the riotous musical landscape, from the concert environment to the influence on musicians' everyday lives.

Presented as part of a running series from Titwrench, the local women-centered music and arts collective, From the Back of the Room screens at 6 p.m. at Growler Records, inside Yellow Feather Coffee, 742 Santa Fe Drive.
