Out of Bounds

"How many cameras have gone to Alaska and British Columbia and places that consistently provide good skiing?" asks Boulder-based filmmaker Nick Waggoner, director of Solitaire, the Best of Festival winner at this year's Backcountry Film Festival. "In South America, that does not exist: There's no promise. You think that there's the promise, that if you wait long enough things will work out, but they don't. The cameras have only ever gone to a tiny little percentage of this entire continent, but there are all these amazing places and ridiculous landscapes that are so unique and have never been seen before."

A special festival cut of Waggoner's hard-won South American ski epic is one of nine film clips from the festival that will screen to-night as part of the Colorado Mountain Club's ninety-minute "Extreme Screen" experience. Other films include Chalk & Ski and Breaking Trail.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Wildlife Experience, 10035 Peoria Street in Parker; tickets are $10 in advance at www.cmc.org/bcffparker and benefit the CMC as it celebrates its centennial anniversary in 2012. For more on the film, go to www.backcountryfilmfestival.org.
