Playing Dress-Up

Last year it was a wine tasting, but this year, in conjunction with the Denver Art Museum's Yves Saint Laurent extravaganza, the Museo de las Americas is hoping to lure a younger demographic into the galleries with Fashion of the Americas, a fashion show fundraiser featuring a diverse quintet of local designers -- Carol Mier, Crystal Sharp, Tina Joliffe, Joie Delores and Joel Prada. From Mier, whose shop is a longtime neighbor to the Museo in the Art District on Santa Fe, to Prada, a Museo volunteer who upcycles antique pieces from Mexico into more modern styles, the five were chosen with differences in mind, notes spokeswoman Tessa Harvey. "We wanted to appeal to all kinds of people," she adds. "That idea of diversity aligns with how we run all of our events at the Museo."
