Tennyson Takes Off
The organizers of Totally Tennyson have gone out of their way to ensure that everybody will have a good time at the blocks-long party showcasing Tennyson Street's restaurants and boutiques. Event co-chair Kristen Speth says the idea for the party came from a group of parents who wanted to put together a school fundraiser that was actually, well, fun. "We wanted to do an event that would appeal to everybody," she explains, and Totally Tennyson is totally that. The party has an '80s theme, with prizes for best costumes; there will also be live performances throughout the eight-block corridor between West 38th and West 46th avenues, including a concert by the Cured, a Cure cover band.

Tickets, $25 in advance and $30 the day of the party, are available at Ooh Aah Jewelry, 4216 Tennyson Street; the Bookery Nook, 4280 Tennyson; and the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue. Proceeds benefit a dozen local schools. The festivities run from 4 to 10 p.m. on the street, while Cured wraps up the evening at the Oriental Theater.
