"When you're only renting a theater for one night and only need one good-sized audience to pay for rent, you can be more creative in your choices," says Jim O'Leary, artistic director of One Night Stand Theater, explaining why he chose to mount the one-night-only Death by Radio, made up of mystery and suspense tales straight from the annals of radio history.
One Night Stand produces about six shows a year, all of which are one-nighters. Death by Radio will feature a series of creepy mystery and suspense tales culled from the golden age of radio. The show is a sequel of sorts to On the Air, notes O'Leary. "That was a mishmash of old radio material we dug up, and the audience and cast had a great time with it."
The theater company has been doing flash-in-the-pan productions for years, finding source material wherever they can, including Denver's own playwrights, many of whom have shown their work with the company's help.
