Colette gets soulful at Bar Standard on May 4

Colette was one of the reasons that Chicago house garnered such a feverish following in the 1990s — and today she remains one of the reasons that the world at large hasn't forgotten the Windy City's contributions to that subgenre of electronic music. She was a pioneer of the live vocal/DJ set combo platters, and her soulful, jazzy alto voice has garnered her productions quite a bit of dance-floor traction. "What Will She Do for Love" has been remixed by big names since its release, and her megahit "Feelin' Hypnotized" was featured in a global Motorola campaign and earned her a U.S. Dancestar award in 2004. Her work for the legendary San Francisco imprint Om Records comprised two of the hottest albums released over the past decade, Hypnotized and Push, and she recently launched her own label, Candy Talk, where she's proven that her sound is only getting deeper and more nuanced — without losing any of its punch over the speakers. Colette headlines another round of Full Flavor Fridays at Bar Standard this Friday, May 4; Full Flavor's Greg Campbell will be there, too, along with Denver House Authority's Joey M and Aspect Audio's Brandon Bass.
