The Teva Mountain Games in Vail this weekend feature two dozen events for cyclists, climbers, runners, fly fishermen, slackliners, kayakers, rafters, paddlers, photographers, filmmakers and even dogs -- yes, dogs -- but the best sport might just be the spectacle, says Vail Valley Foundation spokesman Paul Abling. "We love to see all the people who come up every summer. It's definitely my favorite weekend of the year here in Vail, and it's a cool opportunity to come try some of these sports and see them in action."

The Mountain Click Photo Competition and the Steep Creek Championships kayaking race start today at 10 a.m., followed by the opening ceremonies and a free Keller Williams concert. Qualifiers for the IFSC Bouldering World Cup get under way on Friday, as do the DockDogs Big Air events, the Gibbon Games slackline competition and more, with finals and many of the most spectator-friendly events happening over the weekend.

Conditions should be good for most of the whitewater events despite the low snowmelt, but Abling suggests double-checking the website for updates if you have your heart set on seeing the freestyle kayak or standup paddleboard contests, as water conditions may postpone or cancel them.
