Dressed to Impress

From the coveted Yves Saint Laurent retrospective at the Denver Art Museum to its production of successful Project Runway all-stars, Colorado’s fashion scene is on fire. Today’s opening of Denver Fashion Week 2012 hopes to continue that recognition of our couture work and to connect local designers and boutiques with fashion fans and interested buyers.

Mario's Double Daughter’s Salotto, 1632 Market Street, and Chinook Tavern, 6380 South Fiddler’s Green Circle, Greenwood Village, are just two of the venues that will play host to the week’s runway shows, which will feature the work of Kotomi Yoshida, Rae Marie, Mona Lucero and more. The idea is to showcase the entire metro area as a fashion hub. “New York celebrates its Fashion Week as a whole city, and we want it to be like that,” says Cameron Cowan, organizer of Denver Fashion Week 2012.

Festivities begin today at 11 a.m. at Jelly Cafe, 600 East 13th Avenue, with a meet-and-greet with the week’s staff, designers and models, and culminates with a grand-finale runway show at 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, at New Culture Boutique, 2220 East Colfax Avenue. All events are free and will feature live music. For a full schedule and participating venues and designers, visit www.denverfashionweek2012.com.
