“There are two kinds of people in this world: people who love books and people who don’t really care about books,” muses Dana Cain.

More About

The difference between the two will come into sharp focus tonight and tomorrow at the 28th annual Rocky Mountain Book & Paper Fair, which will serve up an amazing spread of postcards, maps, art prints, old travel brochures, posters, ads and, of course, books and more books.

“Now that hard-copy books are starting to become an endangered species,” adds Cain, who organized the fair, “people really want to support books, and the love of books, and the people who still have open bookstores, the little independent bookshops that cater to really good books, and nice books, and books with hard covers and dust jackets and author’s signatures, books that really mean some-thing — not just for the words, but for the actual artifact of the book itself.”

This year’s theme is “Books Into Film,” and the fair will include panel discussions and film-trailer projections; Heritage Auctions will also host an antique book appraisal booth. The fair takes place at the Denver Merchandise Mart, 451 East 58th Avenue, tonight from 5 to 9 p.m., ($10, includes re-admission tomorrow) or tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ($5).
