The members of the aptly named Nightbringer are from Colorado, a place where the sun allegedly shines 300 days a year. You would never know it, though, from listening to Hierophany of the Open Grave, the act's excellent third album. Playing an absolutely ferocious brand of black metal that's every bit as imposing as these guys look, Nightbringer evokes the more unsettling side of the Centennial State — when the sun is hiding and everything living seems as though it's not. With ominous music that deftly captures the bleakest hours of the coldest, darkest days in the dead of winter, Nightbringer is making some of this country's finest and most affecting black metal.
