Reed Fuchs is the ringmaster of Décollage, a collection of like-minded, freely associating outsider-art terrorists who take collaged sounds and turn them into coherent pop songs. When you see these people perform, you can't help but think that some freak folks got weirder and hooked up with crust punks, challenging themselves to make music with whatever they could gather on a moment's notice. All in all, Décollage (due this Saturday, October 6, at Rhinoceropolis) takes sounds and ideas and recontextualizes or alters them in ways that were never intended. If the Butthole Surfers weren't so dark and disturbing and steeped in rock and roll, and were more informed by indie-pop sensibilities, they might have become a band like this. The Telos Amaranthine, the latest release from Décollage, is rife with the group's appealing strangeness.
