Denver is a zombie town, and you don’t have to look any further than today’s Zombie Crawl for proof. Once again, thousands of the living dead will march up and down the 16th Street Mall for fun, to collect food for Food Bank of the Rockies and to try to set a new world record for the biggest zombie crawl ever.
Kickoff festivities begin at 2 p.m. at Skyline Park, 16th and Arapahoe streets, but get there at noon if you need help with your makeup — and bring a non-perishable food item to donate. The dead will walk the mall starting at 4 p.m., concluding with a costume contest at 5:30 p.m. back at Skyline. Go to www.eyeheartbrains.com for information and pre-registration, which helps organizers get a count for the national record.
If all that walking like the undead has you in the mood to cut loose, you can top off your evening at the Shake Rattle Groan Zombie Prom starting at 8 p.m. at the Denver Press Club, 1330 Glenarm Place. Relive your high-school glory days in gory fashion with the help of a special horror-centric set from ManCub followed by a set from Mile High Soul Club. There will also be zombie burlesque, brain cakes and classic zombie movies running silently while you dance. The girls are “probably more on the side of gory” than pretty, jokes event organizer Jessie de la Cruz. But it wouldn’t be prom without a king and queen, so dress in your best bloody mess to impress for a shot at the crown.
Tickets are $12 in advance online ($15 at the door); get yours, plus information, at shakerattleandgroan.com.
