May the Best Witch Win

The Allied Witches -- an all-female subset of the Mercury Cafe’s Mercury Motley Players -- comes out to play around All Hallows’ Eve every year, and in 2012, what better topic to tackle than an election? This year’s tragic comedy is titled The Presidential Election, and “it’s a charming play,” says the Merc's Marilyn Megenity. “It’s topical, and it’ll make you laugh and cry.

More About

“We address a lot of the issues that perhaps the presidential election isn’t addressing and cast a spell for a better world,” Megenity continues. “Because the theater group is Allied Witches, we can bring witches into the script, and that gives us a lot of magical license to do anything.” And they do, nominating witches for president along with powerful women current and past, such as Jill Stein, Elizabeth Warren, Emma Goldman, Alice Paul and Mother Jones.
