The Scale Trail

Reptile lovers, rejoice: Everything that skitters, slinks or slithers will be found under one roof today at Repticon. Lizards, snakes, turtles and an assortment of non-reptilian creepy-crawlies will be on display, and all the gear you’ll need to make them at home in your home will be available for purchase from a wide selection of vendors. For the reptile-curious who aren’t sure if they're ready to share their life with a gecko or python -- or maybe just aren’t sure how to get started -- there are plenty of seminars on the basics. Or you can just walk around and gawk at exotic animals.

“Think of it as a gun show with reptiles, basically,” says Jason Vander Waal, Repticon’s promotions coordinator. “You’re going to see a lot of reptiles you wouldn’t normally see in pet stores, the kind of animals you normally need to go to the zoo to see.”

The show opens at 10 a.m. today and tomorrow at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds, 25690 East Quincy Avenue in Aurora. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages five to twelve, and free for the little ones (but keep the really little ones away from the pythons). For more information, including a full schedule, and to buy tickets, visit www.repticon.com.
Sat., Oct. 27, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 2012
