Going for Baroque

Ballet Nouveau Colorado is always looking to do something new with someone new. “We love doing collaborative projects with all kinds of artists and organizations in the community,” says BNC artistic director Garrett Ammon, “and Frank Nowell, the director of the Baroque Chamber Orchestra, reached out to see if there might be something we could do together.”

After sitting down and talking with Nowell, Ammon attended a Baroque Chamber Orchestra performance. “What really struck me was that a lot of people — just like when they hear the word ‘ballet’ — might have pre-conceived notions of what [the Orchestra] is," he says. "I was really struck by how incredibly alive and fresh their approach is to the music that they play.”

The result is A Dangerous Liaison, a dance performance in two parts featuring music by Vivaldi and Tartini and choreographed by company dancer/choreographer Sarah Tallman and Ammon himself.

A Dangerous Liaison opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the PACE Center, 20000 Pikes Peak Avenue in Parker, and continues tomorrow at 2 p.m.; you can also catch the performance Friday, November 9, through Sunday, November 11, at the Performing Arts Complex at Pinnacle Charter School, 1001 West 84th Avenue. For tickets, $18 to $47, visit www.bncdance.com.
