Most basketball experts will tell you that you can’t win an NBA championship without a superstar on your team. For the year and a half since the Carmelo Anthony trade, the Denver Nuggets have been trying to disprove that theory, but this season they’ve changed their thinking — slightly: When the team hits the hardwood at the Pepsi Center tonight, all eyes will be on newly acquired shooting guard Andre Iguodala as he tries to step into the star role for his new team.

The Nuggets will be taking on the Detroit Pistons in their home opener, and fans can expect them to wear Detroit down with the same frenetic, run-and-gun style of offense that made them the highest-scoring team in the NBA last year. The young lineup is loaded with potential: Ty Lawson and Danilo Gallinari are on the verge of becoming stars in their own right, while Javale McGee will be looking to live up to the $44 million that Denver showered on him in July. But the NBA is a superstar-driven league, and come game time, Iguodala will get most of the attention.
The first home game of the season tips off at 7 p.m. tonight at the Pepsi Center, 1000 Chopper Circle. Tickets start at $22, but will most likely only be available for much more on after-market websites; for more information, go to www.nba.com/nuggets.
