That’s doubly true today, one of the attraction’s nine 2012 Denver Zoo Free Days, all of which fall during the off-season. A great opportunity to view new animals and exhibits without the summer crowds, the day will unfold from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. much like any other day at the zoo, except that it’s admission-free.
What can you do as you stroll through? Among other things, you can catch sea lion shows at Northern Shores at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and the Elephant Passage demos at 10:45 a.m. and 2 p.m.; the African penguins are fed at 10:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and Pri-mate Panorama’s Red River Hogs pig out at noon. Take a spin on the Endangered Species Carousel, take time to feed yourself at the Samburu Grill and don’t forget to visit the Kibongi Market gift shop, one of the city’s most celebrated kid traps, on your way out.
There are two more free days at the zoo in 2012, on November 16 and 28, and the annual Zoo Lights holiday display will brighten the grounds after dark beginning November 30. The Denver Zoo is at 2300 Steele Street in City Park; for information, visit www.denverzoo.org.
