Believe It — or Not

People believe in some pretty funny stuff, from virgin birth to Bigfoot. For Ian Harris and his partners in The Evolution of Comedy show, all of those beliefs are fair game. “Even the most seemingly rational people, who might not have a particular religion or something, they still have some weird beliefs, some kind of superstition,” Harris says. “To me, it’s just hilarious. It’s easy to make fun of — or to find the humor in — something when it’s a completely irrational belief.”

More About

As confirmed skeptics, Harris and fellow comedians Jason Resler and Maurice Northup take aim at every superstition under the sun, from the concept of God to the kind of conspiracy theories that thrive in the nuttier parts of the Internet. No myth is too big or too small, and every improbable thing people hold dear will be singled out for ridicule.

“I don’t know how many times I’ve had someone come up to me and go, ‘Oh, man, that stuff about Christianity was hilarious, that stuff about astrology was hilarious. But, hey, dude, ghosts are real.’ It’s crazy,” Harris says.

Catch the show tonight at 7 p.m. at Comedy Works, 1226 15th Street; tickets are $12. For more info, visit www.comedyworks.com.
