Fiction Is Fun

You Die Every Time Always
Self-released

The indie-folk movement has grown considerably over the past few years, and though it draws from folk and bluegrass, Denver-based Fiction Is Fun takes a more adventurous route. On You Die Every Time Always, the seven-piece — which started as a trio and at one time ballooned to nine people — injects a fair amount of energy into cuts like "Rain," "Whiskey 101" and "Cactus Man." The last tune captures some of the frenetic vigor of Larry and His Flask, only not quite at the breakneck speed of that outfit. Whether it's chugging away on the upbeat cuts or reeling it in a bit on the mid-tempo, swinging "Harrowed" or the old-timey "Crankybones," these folks will take you on a hell of a ride. This is indie folk with balls.
