Now in its fifth official year, Fancy Tiger’s Holiday Handmade craft show has grown ever grander, having made itself comfortably at home at the ornate, balconied Sherman Street Event Center for the past three. A picture-perfect showcase for the metro area’s accomplished crafters, the carefully juried show is a delight to browse through, as it redefines the traditional definition of the “craft fair.” This year’s event, notes Fancy Tiger’s Amber Corcoran, includes 62 artisan-vendors, 24 of which are new, working in everything from letterpress stationery (Mountain Versus Plains and others) and jewelry to small-batch bath and body products (Fig and Yarrow) and fresh-baked pie (Humble Pie). “We’re excited about our vendors, just as we are every year,” Corcoran says of the 2012 crop. “We’re just happy to be able to support local crafters.”

Wander through the aisles of Holiday Handmade from 5 to 10 p.m. this evening and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at the center, 1770 Sherman Street; along with the aforementioned Humble Pie, Sugar Bakeshop will be selling treats and warm beverages indoors on the show floor, while a revolving group of food trucks will serve up coffee and a variety of more substantial eats. Admission is free, and if you’re on the ball, free tote bags — handmade tote bags, sewn from Fancy Tiger fabrics and screen-printed by show vendor Vital Industries — will be handed out to the first fifty customers on both days; chances are good that you’ll need one to ferry out your purchases by the time you leave.
