A Whole Latke Love

At tonight’s Top Latke Cook-off and Hanukkah Party, the simple but symbolic potato pancake will be dressed up by a dozen expert and amateur chefs, all competing to present the best version at this annual celebration.

Tasters can enjoy samples of the traditional Hanukkah dish prepared in a variety of ways, says Michael Clapman who handpicks the chefs for Temple Micah, which runs the event. “I think there’s uniqueness to being able to eat a dozen different kinds of latkes.”

On top of the savory and sweet feast (which also includes a kids’ latke competition), Temple Micah invites attendees to bring menorahs for a Hanukkah lighting ceremony led by Rabbi Adam Morris; rounding out the evening will be a concert with local musicians Hal Aqua, David Ross and others.
