Teens Rock in the New Year

When it comes to New Year's Eve parties, adults, rather than teenagers, are usually the target audience. But tonight's Black With a Splash of Color 2012: New Year's Teen Gala was created just for teens, providing a fun, safe environment where they can dance, hang out and enjoy an apple cider toast at "midnight" -- or 10 p.m., keeping curfew in mind.

"The event was inspired by the idea of giving teenagers their own unique New Year's Eve experience," says Kelly Hicks, whose Make It Magical Entertainment company is in charge of putting on the shindig.

Set inside a confetti-and-streamer-covered Hangar 61, Stapleton's beautifully renovated 1959 structure, the party includes DJ Stereo-Lion spinning Top 40 and reggae tunes, and a balloon drop to accompany the countdown. Formal attire is required -- and the "black with a splash of color" theme is open to interpretation.

The Gala runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at Hangar 61, 8700 East 21st Avenue in Stapleton. Tickets are $15 to $20 and can be purchased at the door or in advance at www.splashofcolor2012.com. School ID is required for entry.
Fri., Dec. 28, 6 p.m., 2012
