Beaver Creek – home of the Birds of Prey World Cup ski race and famed double-black runs with names like Golden Eagle, Peregrine and Osprey – gets literal with its raptor motif today, offering up a free interactive exhibit hosted by Nature's Educators starting at 3:30 p.m. in Beaver Creek Plaza, where actual birds of prey will be the main attraction.
"This is a unique opportunity to interact with rare birds and to learn about various species," says resort spokeswoman Julia Littman. Celebrities in the cast of Nature's Educators raptor programs include a Barbary falcon, a pair of gyrfalcons, a red-tailed hawk, a great horned owl, a Harris's hawk, an American kestrel, a Merlin and a screech owl, nearly all of which have namesake runs on the mountain.

The event marks the end of the resort's annual holiday WinterFest and kicks off Saturday's Family FunFest, which includes a free Rail Jam Playground event, where kids can take flight with terrain-park instruction and supervision from the Beaver Creek Children's Ski & Snowboard School. Afterward, check out the village carnival, which will feature games, live music and activities for the whole family. All WinterFest and Family FunFest events are free; for more information, visit www.beavercreek.com.
