“Hallelujah — our long national nightmare is over. Now we face a fiscal cliff. Sounds like an event from the X Games. Here’s hoping both parties start talking to each other and stop talking to us,” he said in a recent Back in Black segment on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. And now that that the fiscal cliff is also (sort of) behind us, you can be sure Black’s wagging finger and furrowed brow are still as tense as ever, gearing up for his next stroke, which will most likely arrive with the upcoming debt-ceiling debate. “The Democrats have to learn how to talk, and the Republicans have to learn to stop talking,” Black said last November on Talking Liberally, adding that until that happens, both Democrats and Republicans “better just shut up soon, or I’m going to do something bad.”
Fortunately, the legendary comedian has the outlet of standup comedy to calm his nerves, giving him ample opportunity for wide-eyed rants on everything from butt-chugging and Lance Armstrong to candy corn and Ayn Rand. You can catch Black’s The Rant Is Due 2013 tour at 8 p.m. at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, in the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Tickets are $45 to $65 plus service charges; for more information, visit www.denvercenter.org.
