Jacob DeRaadt has been the sole constant member of Sterile Garden (due Tuesday, January 22, at Seventh Circle Music Collective). To file the project, which originated in Fort Collins, under "noise" simply doesn't take into account the preparation and conceptualization involved in its performances. DeRaadt and his collaborators make extensive use of pre-recorded tapes that they then manipulate with electronic devices to create an almost organic, living sonic environment. The result is music that is never harsh, but rather made up of vivid atmospheres and textures generated and modulated to give those in attendance a unique, dreamy experience, each show filled with music that's warm at times and dark at others — not to mention always fascinating.
