Justice Is Served

“The whole comic-book realm is primarily riddled with testosterone and dudes,” says Pablo Kjolseth, director of the International Film Series at the University of Colorado in Boulder. But there is one heroine who’s held her own — with her lasso of truth — since 1941. And Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines, which screens tonight, shares that story, following the history and legacy of the Amazon warrior princess.

Via interviews with feminist icons such as Gloria Steinem and Le Tigre’s Kathleen Hanna, the film traces the history and impact of Wonder Woman, from her creation through many different eras. “It’s both edifying and entertaining — and just fun,” says Kjolseth. “It’s not a dry, feminist, academic screed. It shows just how important it is for young girls growing up to have somebody they can look up to.”

Screenwriter and Exterminating Angel Press publisher Tod Davies and renowned independent film producer Margaret Matheson will be on hand to introduce the film and answer questions after the screening.

Wonder Women! runs at 7 p.m. as part of the International Film Series at Muenzinger Auditorium on the CU-Boulder campus. Tickets — $7 general, $6 seniors and students with ID — go on sale a half-hour before the show. For more information, visit www.internationalfilmseries.com or call 303-492-1531.
