A Screening Good Time

This year’s Festivus Film Festival, the sixth annual celebration of indie flicks, isn’t saving its best for last. Rather, it will explode out of the gates with a first night that puts Colorado filmmakers firmly in the limelight.

More About

“We have [a] block that’s all local shorts, and a feature film called Along Recovery,” says Johnathan McFarlane, one of the festival’s directors. “That’s by a local filmmaker who’s a military vet, and it deals with vets coming back from war with brain injuries and PTSD. I’m really excited about that.”

Not that the next four nights lack for great programming, either: The festival, which runs through February 24, will serve up a mix of shorts, documentaries and narrative features that should please indie-film fans of every stripe. And once the movies are over each night, the parties start, offering you a chance to hobnob with the filmmakers, confess your love of their work, or pitch them on a possible collaboration.

Tonight starts with a block of local shorts at 7 p.m., followed by the Colorado premiere of Along Recovery at 9 at the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue. Tickets to each showing are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Festival passes range from $25 to $75, and the nightly parties are all free.
