Denver will welcome the Snowsports Industries America (SIA) Snow Show for the third consecutive year this coming weekend, and while the trade show at the Colorado Convention Center is industry-only, promoters have surrounded it with a citywide celebration of hot events dedicated to the cold: Art of Winter.
“SIA is a terrific opportunity for us to showcase the best Colorado companies in this industry and to show how much our city and our state support, embrace and celebrate winter sports,” says Chuck Sullivan, co-founder of Something Independent, which is presenting Art of Winter.
Artists Sam Mobley and Matt Doubek will unveil their exhibit of cardboard gondolas in the Convention Center lobby today; it will stay up through February 5. The Denver Film Society is presenting a display of film-themed artwork on “upcycled” skis and snowboards in Larimer Square through February 24. There will also be art shows at Backcountry Provisions and Crave Coffee, and a dozen local companies will be featuring skis and boards from their 2013/2014 lines in the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Makers Showcase, which will be featured at Row 14 through February 10. Thirsty? A number of bars in Larimer Square and along 14th Street will be offering special drinks in the Art of Winter Cocktail Trail. Other SIA-related events open to the public include the fourteenth annual TransWorld Snow-boarding Riders’ Poll Awards at 7 p.m. Friday, February 1, at the Fillmore Auditorium and Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre at 8:30 p.m. on February 1.
