After a tarot reading in the early 1990s in San Francisco that she calls “mind-blowingly amazing and accurate,” Hoa Nguyen became interested in the mystical art of divination. Now the world-renowned poet, founder of poetry journal Skanky Possum and current teacher at Ryerson University in Toronto will be traveling to Denver for a special promotional event for Counterpath Press that involves card readings from Nguyen’s Mythic Deck, which displays the tarot arcana through Greek myth.
“What I appreciate most about giving readings is that rather than talking about the weather or a television series, people go really deep, really fast, talking about the big shapes in their lives,” explains Nguyen. “By doing that, you’re plunged into this space of considering the overarching patterns of a life: birth, death, journeys, successes, failures, starting over again.” Nguyen will sign and read from her latest poetry collection, As Long As Trees Last, and read cards for people who purchase at least two books from Counterpath. Space is limited to sixteen people, so sign up early.
Counterpath is located at 613 22nd Street; the tarot event runs from 1 to 5:30 p.m., and the reading follows at 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.counterpathpress.org.
