Candygram for Mongo

Colorado’s place as part of the Old West drives the Wildlife Experience’s Whiskey and a Western program, which pairs classic Westerns with whiskey and food. Of course, your own Western roots don’t need to be nearly as deep to appreciate the film, especially when the selection is Blazing Saddles, the classic comedy that’s a little more lighthearted than your average range-war epic.

“We’ve had a lot of classic Westerns, like True Grit and Open Range, some of the best Westerns you’ve ever seen,” says Wildlife Experience spokesman Greg Masinton. “Sometimes we like to lighten up and have a little fun.” And the fun doesn’t stop with Mel Brooks’s unforgettable lampooning of Old West tropes. You also get two whiskey drinks, plus dinner and popcorn, and the museum itself is open if you want to take in an exhibit before the screening.

Cocktails, dinner and browsing start at 5:30 p.m., and the movie begins at 7:30. Tickets are $25, or $20 for museum members; designated drivers can get a whiskey-free package for just $15. The Wildlife Experience is at 10035 Peoria Street in Parker; for more info, or to purchase tickets, visit thewildlifeexperience.org.
