“They always say after you leave art school to just keep creating work and be in the art scene,” says Jennifer Harrington, who got her degree from the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in 2010. But once real life kicks in and the pressures of day jobs and families pile up, creating without academic deadlines can get difficult. That’s part of why Harrington, along with fellow artists Margaret Neumann, Christine Buchsbaum, Holly Johnson and Nancy Slyter, participate in Pink Collar Glam: an art collective that hosts regular exhibitions and also acts as a supportive community so these artists can continue creating, getting out and seeing new art, and curating their own exhibitions.

Moving Ground, the collective’s newest offering, is based on the changes that collective members are going through, from having babies to applying to grad school. Through sculpture, photography, painting and other mediums, the women of Pink Collar Glam — along with guest artists Paul Gillis, Porscha Danielle and Shannon Kelly — will explore this theme.

“Not only do we motivate each other, but I feel like our personalities and attitudes and passions kind of feed off each other, so it enhances our work as well,” says Harrington. “We just really want people to see our evolution of work as well as see our artistic vision on curating a show.”

Moving Ground opens tonight at Ice Cube Gallery, 3320 Walnut Street, with a reception from 6 to 10 p.m. It will remain on display through March 2.
