The Broadway production of Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities so wowed the crowds that it warranted a Best Play nomination at the 2012 Tony Awards, as well as a bid for the Pulitzer Prize. The story of a household that is rent by upheaval when a daughter comes home for Christmas after writing a revealing book about the family's skeleton in the closet, the drama represents just the kind of powerful and enduring theater artistic director Kent Thompson aims to bring to Denver Center Theatre Company stages each year.
"Other Desert Cities is a brilliant and remarkable hit from Broadway because it’s a play for grownups,” says Thompson. “Baitz keeps shifting our sympathies as these characters surprise us with each revelation. At the same time as it’s moving, it’s also very funny." Thompson took the reins himself to direct the hit play, which also counts DCTC regulars Kathleen McCall (who understudied for Stockard Channing as Polly Wyeth in the Broadway version) and Lauren Klein (a 2013 Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship recipient) as Brooke Wyeth among its cast members.
