What began as antique dealer Eron Johnson’s winter reverie — how to get together with a few friends and have an outdoor market — has now turned into a major event. “It was a case of bad weather and boredom, and wanting to do something that said it was spring,” Johnson says of the Valverde Bazaar, whose debut edition runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at his Valverde neighborhood warehouse, with merchandise from 55 vendors. And despite its ballooning size (Johnson had to turn away vendors), he’s happy with the way things have turned out. “I wanted it to be everything from regular flea-market wares to finer things — the way it used to be on Portobello Road in London, where you never knew what you’d see in the next booth,” Johnson says of the pop-up bazaar’s diverse makeup. And what will you find at this urban paean to the city’s growing buy-local movement? “It’s a lot!” Johnson answers. Vendor booths will carry everything from handmade jewelry and jardinieres (and flowers to put in them) to vintage furniture and clothing, including hard-to-find men’s garments. What are you waiting for? Spend a spring day at the Valverde Bazaar at Eron Johnson Antiques, 389 South Lipan Street.
