“Every scene is done to the T, re-created with their video cameras,” explains Tom DeFrancia of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. “It’s very impressive that kids could go out and re-create this big-budget film and pull it off. And get Steven Spielberg’s attention! He saw it and flipped out and called them personally.”
From small character moments to elaborate set pieces like the fire in the bar, the film recasts every bit of the classic in lo-fi, low-budget glory, making for a unique experience that will please fans of the original as well as anyone who loves a good underdog story. Strompolos will be on hand to sign copies of his new book, Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made, and answer questions about the film.
The screening starts at 6 p.m. at Alamo, 7301 South Santa Fe Drive in Littleton; tickets are $12.50. For information, visit drafthouse.com/denver.
