Horribly Cinematic

While some may prefer the fantasy, sci-fi or superhero aspects of Denver Comic Con, which wraps up today, you can’t totally geek out without a bit of blood-bursting horror. “I tend to think that comic-book and horror fans are often one and the same,” says horror comic artist Dan Crosier. “Many of my peers tend to migrate between superhero comics and horror genre. With media so easily accessible, pop culture tends to encourage this cross-pollination.”

That’s why Crosier and the organizers of the annual Mile High Horror Film Festival, which takes place in October, are bringing their short-film “greatest-hits” series back to Comic Con this year.

“Denver Comic Con is, for horror fans, a world stage to congregate and express their love for things that bleed...and spandex,” says Crosier. “But just as important, it’s also about seeking out new and undiscovered talent, and share, share, share. We didn’t know Denver had such a huge comic-book-culture fan base, but last year we experienced 27,000-plus attendees to Denver Comic Con. This year, we are bracing for the same.”
