Visions of Love

The complexities of human relationships weave a tangled web. Director Betsy Tobin has always been fascinated by interpersonal inter-action, and her newest performance, METAPHOR, uses strong visual metaphors to delve into the patterns that occur between people in love.

“I’ve always been kind of fascinated by just how intricate human relationships are and how beautiful they can be and how complicated they can be,” says Tobin. “We’re dealing with relationship situations that come up in everyday life, but the reactions to the situations are very unexpected because I’m working with dancers, actors, jugglers, a hip-hop artist, an aerial dancer and acrobats, so very unexpected things happen.”

METAPHOR sheds light on those relationship patterns through metaphorical, non-linear scenarios that combine trapeze work, video projection, puppetry and other types of performance art.

Tobin's Now or Never Theatre presents METAPHOR today and tomorrow at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Dairy Center for the Arts, 2590 Walnut Street in Boulder. Tickets are $14 to $18; call 303-444-7328 or visit the dairy.org to purchase yours. For information, visit nowornevertheatre.com.
